Simple Steps to Preventing Face Mask Causing Acne, Spots and Dryness

Posted by Albert Engelbrecht on

Wearing a face mask regularly can lead to various skin problems like acne, dryness, spots, callus and wrinkles...

If you are using a face mask every day, you must read this entire article to find out how to avoid all these issues and make sure they don't turn into something worse.

Let me tell you the simple steps to preventing your face mask causing acne, spots and dryness...

Preventing Acne When Wearing Masks

In order to prevent developing acne in the face mask area you need to make sure of 2 things:

  1. Use a clean or new mask every day
If you use a disposable mask, please dispose it at the end of the day. Every day you should grab a new one that is fresh and clean. If you have reusable fabric masks, please wash them every day. A good practice is to have 5-7 of these and use a clean one every day; then wash them all every week.

  2. Wash your face before and after wearing a mask
If you have any dirt on your face while wearing a mask, the mask will possibly rub it into your pores and then clog them and cause infections. This translates into blackheads or pimples. To avoid this from happening, wash your face before wearing a face mask. Also, at the end of the day, wash your face nicely and gently because it's natural to be exposed to dirt and other contaminants in the air that may have ended up trapped under or around your mask.

Preventing Dryness, Spots, Callus and Wrinkles

When wearing a mask, it is constantly creating friction against your skin. This first creates dryness along the lines where the mask makes contact with your face and the dryness causes other problems.

Also, the constant friction forces your skin to protect itself by creating a thicker layer of skin (callus) - this can be developed by people who wear tight masks every day. Dryness and calluses can lead to spots. And last but not least, you can develop lines or wrinkles in the areas where the mask makes contact with your skin.

These skin problems above can be avoided by doing the following:

  1. Wash your face with a hydrating cleanser in the morning and night
A hydrating cleanser will hydrate and soften your face, making dryness less possible.
  2. Moisturize your face before putting the mask on
A gentle moisturizer will also do wonders for avoiding dryness along the areas where the mask creates contact with your skin. Also, it creates a protective layer against dirt and other contaminants in the air. A good moisturizer prevents spots, dryness, calluses, lines and wrinkles.
  3. You can refresh your face every 2-3 hours with an alcohol-free Toning Mist like ours
This toner can remove dirt from your pores and the surface of your skin. You can use it any time of the day, whether it is cold or hot, to clean and refresh your skin - making your face feel comfortable even after hours of using a face mask.

If you have been using masks regularly during the pandemic without skin care measures, you may have already seen some of these problems. We highly recommend taking action quickly before things get worse.
